1: Getting Ready To Bet

Determining My Bankroll

Your bankroll is the foundation of your sports investment journey. It is a separate sum of money, distinct from your daily living expenses, which you are willing and able to invest without withdrawing from (except in extenuating circumstances, of course). We recommend spreading this amount across various bookmakers or exchanges (more on this later) to prepare for the tips your Titans will provide.

Determining My Bet / Unit Size

Now that you have determined your bankroll, we need to establish your unit size. In sports betting, a unit is a standard term that represents the level of staking an analyst recommends for a particular tip. Your Titans will always include a recommended stake (in units) with each tip. This is so every member (with different-sized bankrolls) can apply a bet size to a tip based on their bankroll and unit size.

To determine the total funds you should allocate to a single recommended bet, you multiply your unit size by the analyst’s recommended stake. For example, if your unit size is $100 and the recommended stake is 2.25 units, the bet amount would be $100 (unit size) x 2.25 (unit stake) = $225 bet size.

Your unit size depends on your personal bankroll. For instance, with a 200-unit bankroll (a low-risk strategy), the unit sizes would be as follows for these bankroll amounts:

  • A $5,000 bankroll = $25 per unit
  • A $10,000 bankroll = $50 per unit
  • A $20,000 bankroll = $100 per unit

Choosing And Setting Up Bookmakers

First and foremost, shopping for the best odds is crucial for maximising profits, and there are hundreds of bookmakers to choose from. Don’t be intimidated by the sheer number; you don’t need that many to start your sports investment journey, especially if you’re a beginner.

We recommend opening and funding at least five bookmaker accounts before placing bets. Start with the largest and most well-known bookmakers, as they offer a broad range of markets and often the most competitive prices. Experts use these bookmakers as a foundation for their research, ensuring that the bets and markets they recommend will be available for subscribers.

Here are some recommended bookmakers to consider:

Australian Customers:

  • Sportsbet
  • Bet365
  • Tab
  • Ladbrokes/Neds
  • Pointsbet
  • Topsport

USA Customers:

  • DraftKings
  • Bet365
  • Fanduel
  • BetMGM
  • Caesars

Depositing Into Bookmakers

Now that you’ve set up your bookmaker accounts, it’s time to fund them. Consider depositing a portion of funds into all of your country’s recommended major bookmakers. Initially, it’s advised to deposit 2-3 units into each bookmaker, enough to place your first bets. As you use the platform and make your first bets, you’ll gradually figure out which bookmakers your particular Titans quote markets to, allowing you to adjust your distribution accordingly as your journey progresses.

We always recommend keeping at least 20% of your total funds in reserve in case any of your accounts start running low. If one of your accounts consistently wins and builds up a larger balance, refrain from withdrawing from it unless absolutely necessary (we’ll dive into account longevity in more detail later on).

2: Placing Your First Bet

What information will I receive within a tip?

With each tip card you will receive the following details:

  1. The sport and initials of the Titan providing the tip
  2. The match/event name
  3. The bet type and selection
  4. The recommended bookmaker and their odds
  5. Suggested bet size (in dollars based on your unit size)
  6. Suggested stake size (in units)
  7. Detailed analysis

Many Titans will include the minimum acceptable odds in the analysis section of their tips, indicating where they still see value in placing the bet.

This information is essential for placing your tip. With these comprehensive details, you will have all the necessary information to make informed betting decisions based on the Titans’ expertise and insights.

How Will I Receive My Tips?

Tips are generally sent within 24 hours of the match or event start time, often on the day of the event. Occasionally, if the analysts identify value in the market and expect a price to change, tips may be sent earlier. You can easily access your tips from the mobile app or your favourite web browser.

Mobile App

The mobile app available for both Apple and Android. You’ll get a notification when there’s a new tip. The Tip Feed in the app is available at all times and shows all your tips. This is the most convenient way to receive your tips on the go!

Web Browser

We understand that mobile apps aren’t for everyone, so we’ve ensured you can also access your tips via a browser. When you log in at app.tiptitans.com, the Tip Feed page will display all your past and upcoming tips, just like the mobile app.

Email

You can opt to receive email notifications by toggling this setting in your account settings.

How Much Should I Stake On Each Tip?

In sports betting, a unit is a standard term that represents the level of staking a Titan recommends for a particular tip. Your unit size should have already been determined in ‘Getting Ready To Bet’.

When Should I Place My Bets?

Place the bet as soon as you can, provided the odds or line recommendation from your Titan is still available at your bookmakers. Don’t delay until the odds change; place your bets as soon as you receive the notification to give you the best chance of getting the best market price.

What To Do When Titans’ Quoted Odds / Line Aren’t Available?

The Titans’ tips will quote the best available odds (and many will provide minimum acceptable odds in the analysis) and the bookmaker offering them at the time the tip is released. The available odds/line will fluctuate over time, so the analyst will often provide a betting range for which they still see value in placing the bet.

Generally, for the best odds, we recommend placing your bets as close to the tip’s release as possible. However, if the market does move outside of the tipped range, you can revisit the market later before the event starts, to see if there has been any market movement.

Opening a range of bookmaker accounts will give you the best chance of accessing the best odds available at the time you are ready to place your bet. It’s worth noting that different sports and bet types have differing volatility in their markets. You can expect some markets to barely fluctuate and for others to fluctuate significantly.

What If I Miss A Tip?

Don’t panic, it’s not the end of the world if you miss a tip – whether it wins or loses, there will always be more opportunities. The worst thing you can do is let your emotions get the better of you and start placing bets outside of your Titan’s recommendations.

You can achieve success as a sports investor without placing every single tip you receive. In fact, expecting to bet on every tip is unrealistic. That’s why it’s crucial to consistently seek the best odds while adhering to your Titan’s recommended range for the tips you do bet on. Titans only provide tips when they perceive value in the market, ensuring that every tip you place gives you an edge. With Titans consistently delivering value over time, it’s not essential to bet on every single tip to be successful. Just remember to keep track of the tips you do and don’t place (in the app) to ensure accurate performance tracking.

3: Bankroll Management

Your bankroll is the foundation of your sports investment journey. It is a separate sum of money, distinct from your daily living expenses, which you are willing and able to invest without withdrawing (except in extenuating circumstances, of course).

Managing your bankroll is the cornerstone of any successful investment strategy, particularly in the realm of sports betting. This fundamental concept should be grasped before placing your initial investment. Effective bankroll management ensures that you never overextend yourself on any single bet or investment, paving the way for sustainable long-term profitability. More on Bankroll Management in the next section.

Adjusting Your Unit Size

We recommend adjusting your unit size whenever your bankroll changes by 10% or more, with more frequent adjustments being beneficial. Not adapting your bankroll following even a minor downswing can impact your long-term success as a sports bettor.

Here’s an example of how to adjust unit size for a 100-unit, $10,000 bankroll:

Tracking Performance

Tracking your performance is the next step to becoming a pro; success requires always knowing where you stand. Without performance tracking, you can’t properly adjust your unit size or manage your risk effectively.

The best way to do this is to track your performance on the Tip Titans platform. We’ve built advanced, personalised tracking tools for sports investors, allowing you to make informed bankroll decisions.

After entering your bankroll and unit size, the app will calculate your returns automatically as each tip result comes in, adjusting your bankroll accordingly. Occasionally, you may miss placing a bet or receive different odds. In such cases, the platform allows you to input the actual stake and odds for each tip, reflecting these changes in your performance.

If you don’t indicate that you missed a tip, the platform will assume you placed the bet at the quoted odds and stake, impacting your returns and overall performance.

Mobile App

Swipe left or right on a tip card to confirm whether you placed or missed a bet. The app allows you to input the actual stake and odds for each tip by entering into the individual tip card. These changes will be reflected in your performance, you can access the performance information via the side menu.

Web Browser

To update your stake size or odds, or to indicate a missed tip, simply click on a tip card and input your changes. You can find the bankroll and returns section at the top right of the screen when logged in via a browser.

Long-Term Mindset

Even the best sports analysts in the world experience losing periods. This is the nature of investing in any growth asset, with inevitable ups and downs. Therefore, it’s crucial to be prepared for these short-term downswings through effective bankroll management, ensuring they don’t impact our long-term success.

For the same reason that non-profitable sports bettors can win in the short-term, it is also possible for long term profitable sports bettors to lose in the short-term. Professional sports analysts achieve success over a longer period of time, maintaining patience and discipline through the good and bad times.

Accepting that these short-term losses are going to happen over your sports betting journey is the first step to maintaining a level-headed approach during a downswing. Like the S&P 500, historical data shows that those who maintain discipline and patience when investing in growth assets often achieve significant success over time. Patience and discipline are key. Just as investors are advised to avoid panic selling during market dips, sports bettors should avoid quitting after a few losses. Sticking to a well-thought-out strategy is crucial.

4: Common Risk Management Mistakes in Betting

Just like any other investment, risk management is pivotal to your success in the long-term. When betting as an investment, it is easy to fall into the psychological traps of becoming too emotionally invested. If you are just starting out, you are already ahead of the game by not falling into these common pitfalls.

Here are some common mistakes sports bettors make regarding bankroll management. Avoiding these psychological traps can give you a significant advantage if you are just starting out:

Basing Bet Sizes on Emotions

Many bettors adjust their bet sizes based on their current feelings or recent performance, which can be a costly mistake. Confidence can fluctuate quickly, but it’s crucial to remain consistent and objective with your betting amounts to avoid making decisions driven by emotion.

Giving Up Due To Short-Term Losses

Downswings are inevitable and even the best sports bettors in the world have losing runs. Short term periods of negative performance are a natural part of investing in high growth investments. The Titans rely on long-term insights and strategies to ensure they are profitable over the long-term. Maintaining patience and discipline during a downswing is the only way to achieve the long-term success that these professional bettors demonstrate.

Betting for Entertainment

Betting on a team or player just because you’re watching the game can seem more enjoyable, but it often leads to poor decisions. While sports betting is exciting, sticking to the proven strategy of following your Titans rather than placing bets for entertainment purposes is essential. This common mistake can negatively impact your long-term success.

Withdrawing from Your Bankroll for Personal Use

Recreational bettors often withdraw winnings for personal purchases, which can stunt the growth of their bankroll. This practice can also lead to frustration during downswings as the initial growth is lost. Treat your bankroll as a long-term investment and keep it separate from personal spending to maximise compounding returns. If you must withdraw, adjust your staking sizes accordingly.

Using Only One or Two Bookmakers for Convenience

Limiting yourself to one or two bookmakers because it’s convenient is a missed opportunity. Having accounts with multiple bookmakers allows you to shop for the best odds, which can significantly impact your returns and bankroll growth over time. Don’t let convenience hinder your potential profits.

By steering clear of these common mistakes, you can better manage your bankroll and improve your chances of long-term success in sports betting. Like the Pros!

5: Understanding Betting Terminology

We understand that some sports betting terms can be unfamiliar. That’s why we created the TipTitans glossary, which contains definitions for all the terms you might not know.

Annualised-ROI (A-ROI %)

This is the annual return on investment that has been achieved over time. It’s expressed as a time-weighted annual percentage.  Investors can use the annualised rate of return to compare the performance of different investments.

Average Tips Per Week

Average Tips Per Week indicates the number of tips you can anticipate receiving from an Analyst on a weekly basis. We calculate this number based on the analysts tipping history.

Bankroll

It is a separate sum of money, distinct from your daily living expenses, which you are willing and able to invest without withdrawing (except in extenuating circumstances, of course).

Expected Value

In sports betting, “expected value” (EV) is a statistical measure used to assess the potential profitability of a bet over the long term. It represents the average outcome of a bet if the same bet were placed many times under similar conditions.

Profit Per Tip (PPT %) / Profit on Turnover (POT %)

Profit Per Tip (PPT) indicates the historical profit percentage per tip provided by the Titan. For instance, a Titan with a PPT of 8% signifies that they have earned $8 in profit for every $100 staked.

Return on Investment (ROI %) / Cumulative ROI

Return on Investment (ROI) reflects the historical returns of a Titan over a specified period. For example, a Titan with a 250% ROI has turned a $10,000 bankroll into $35,000.

Returns

Tracking profit and loss across multiple apps and services can be time-consuming. If you place bets with other services or in your own free time, it can detract from the actual returns provided by TipTitans. The Returns metric within the app shows your total ($) returns, calculated based on the unit sizes set in your strategy, the bets you indicated you placed or missed, and the Titans on your team. This gives you a comprehensive Profit & Loss metric from the tips received through TipTitans.

Unit

A unit is a standard term in sports betting that represents the amount you should stake on a tip. For example, if your unit size is $100 and you receive a tip for 2 units, you would place $200 ($100 * 2 units) on this tip.

Variance

Variance refers to the natural fluctuations and unpredictability in the outcomes of bets over time. Even if you consistently make well-informed bets with positive expected value, short-term results can vary significantly due to luck, randomness, and unforeseen events. Positive variance refers to favourable fluctuations whereas negative variance refers to unfavourable fluctuations.

7: The Dashboard

While we think the TipTitans platform is super easy to use, this section will show you around and make you a master of the TipTitans dashboard in no time!

Trading Titans

One feature of managing your team is the ability to trade out a current Titan for a new one. While we always emphasise to trust the process and not trade out a Titan when they have a down period, we understand that sometimes you want to make a change to your team.
Simply hit the trade button on the Titan’s card in the ‘My Team’ page, select the Titan you want to trade for, and the trade will be scheduled for the next billing cycle to automatically add the new Titan to your team.

Adding Titans

Visit the Marketplace to recruit more Titans for your team. When building your team, consider choosing Titans who have the best long-term performance. The more Titans you add, the cheaper your ‘per titan’ cost becomes!

Viewing Tips

You can find your tips on the Tip Feed from the dashboard. The Tip Feed has several filters to help you manage your tips as your team grows:

  • Latest: Displays the most recent tips in the order your Titans released them.
  • Next Up: Orders tips chronologically by event start time.
  • Live: Shows tips for matches/events that have started but are not yet finished or resulted by your Titan.
  • Resulted: Lists all tips that have been resulted by your Titan, in the order they were released.
Reserves List

The reserves list is where you can add Titans you’re interested in to keep a closer eye on their results. You might want to trade these Titans for those on your current team or increase your team size and add them easily.
